The Wendell City Fire Department was established November 14th 1913 The Wendell Rural Fire Department was established June 12th 1944 The mission of both Fire Departments is to protect the lives, property, and environment in Wendell and surrounding areas through prevention, public education, emergency response, and non-emergency services. We will maintain the highest level of response readiness to deliver fire fighting, emergency medical and rescue services in a safe, competent and caring manner, whenever and wherever possible. The City Fire Department and the Rural Fire District share responsibility of maintaining one station and two Engines. There are 18 volunteers and two full time personnel (Chief & Assistant Chief) that respond to about 250 alarms a year. These alarms are composed of fires, investigations, false alarms, and automobile accidents. Along with the two engines that are co-owned with the Wendell City Fire Department, the Wendell Rural Fire District also own two light Brush Engines, an Extrication unit, four water Tenders, two command units, and a basic life support Quick Response Unit. In the spring of 2005 the Wendell Rural Fire District also took governing control and financial responsibility for the operations of the Wendell Quick Response Unit. This unit provides emergency care until the arrival of the county ambulance. This unit operates with 6-8 volunteers that are licensed with the State of Idaho to provide medical help. This Unit is dispatched to about 300 calls per year.
